The MVP Coaching Staff

The MVP International Hockey Program is led by Coach Simon Roberts. With years of experience in the youth hockey world, coach Roberts has created a very strong coaching staff below.

 Simon Roberts

MVP Hockey Director, Coach Simon Roberts brings decades of international hockey experience to the MVP International hockey program. As Director of Ice Hockey, coach Roberts has brought international Ice Hockey opportunities to the DMV community. Along with being the bench boss of several Tier 1 hockey programs, including the Washington Little Capitals, he's also been involved with USA Hockey Player Development Camps and was invited to be an Affiliate coach with the NTDP. With a background in Strength & Conditioning, coach Roberts also works with the Washington Capitals Player Development camps Coach Roberts also grew up in various places around the world and brings a cultural tone to the program that is highly valued by the MVP team. Coach Roberts led his first tour with MVP International in 2018 to Central Europe with a group of 16u players and families. With the amazing experience gained, Coach Roberts has ambitiously contributed to bring new opportunities to the Ice Hockey community at large. Coach Roberts resides in Reston, VA with his wife Marie and his infant, Colin.

Gary Pouliot

This is Coach Gary's second year with the MVP International program. Coach Gary has coached in the Xtreme program for eleven years (2004-2008, 2010-18), guiding eight teams to the prestigious USA Hockey National Championships (2004, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017). Gary graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor's degree in physical education. Upon graduation, Gary served as an Infantry Officer in the United States Marine Corps for five years and then went on to serve as a Special Agent in the FBI for twenty-seven years. Gary is a USA Hockey Level 5 certified coach.

Jim Mosso

All Time Head Coaching Record: 112-44-4 2015-2016: EHL Premier Coach of the Year 2016-2017: EHL Premier Coach of the Year 2016-2017: EHL Premier Regular Season Championship After a long career playing Juniors, Jim Mosso was recruited to play college hockey for Fitchburg State in 2009. His accomplishments include five championships over his seven-year stint of playing at the Junior/College level. During his career, he won a National Championship in Juniors and then went on to win an NCAA Division III MASCAC Championship. Jim Mosso graduated from Fitchburg with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise and Sport Science and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He began his junior hockey coaching career with the Jr. Flyers U18 Tier 1 Elite and MJHL teams. Then, he became head coach of the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack (EHL). His first two seasons with the Vermont Lumberjacks he was awarded 2016 and 2017 EHL Coach of the Year.

Matt Scodelarro

Coach Scodellaro is a USA Hockey Level 5-certified coach with 17 years of coaching experience, serving with the Reston Raiders Hockey Club since 2010, most recently as the 12UAA Blue 2006 Head Coach. Prior to moving to Virginia in 2007, he was the Varsity Head Coach at Cedarburg (Wis.) High School from 2001-2007. Coach Scodellaro is a native of Welland, Ontario and played AAA hockey with the Welland Tigers Minor Hockey organization before going on to Shattuck-St. Mary’s School (Faribault, Minnesota), and then Clarkson University (Potsdam, NY) and graduating from St. Norbert College (De Pere, Wisconsin). He earned his J.D. from Marquette University Law School (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) and has been a practicing attorney since 2001 and is currently a Deputy General Counsel with the Department’s Office of Justice Programs. He and his wife, Angie, and boys, Vincent and Joseph, live in Vienna.

Clark Mowrey

Coach Mowrey is at home on the ice. Starting to play the game at the age of 5 with Bowie Hockey Club he later joined the Washington Little Capital his Bantam year. Coach Mowrey’s love of the game came when he was lucky enough to be coached by former Washington Capital Hall of Fame player Yvon Labre. Coach Labre’s integrity and love for the game influenced Coach Mowrey and, in large part, is why he coaches youth hockey today. Coach Mowrey spends countless hours at the rink in addition to coaching elite hockey players he teaches “Learn to Skate” programs and administers “Try Hockey for Free” programs for years. Coach Mowrey also played Division 3 Lacrosse at Cabrini College, Radnor PA before returning to his roots in 2003 to coach with the Bowie Hockey Club. He has coached at all levels form 2003-2015 earning several trips to the USA Hockey Southeastern District Tournament. Coach Mowrey is a Level 4 certified coach within USA Hockey. He is hardworking, dedicated, and enjoys building confidence in all players through a love of hockey and team play His instructional focus and coaching philosophy is to create well-balanced young men and women through physical and mental development. Coach Mowrey lives in Bowie, Maryland, with his wife Jackie, two sons Jack and Cooper, daughter Ameila Rose and an old rescue lab named Trista

Brad Surdam

Brad is a long time native of Northern Virginia and has played for numerous organizations in the area, including the Washington Little Capitals, Junior Capitals, Junior Nationals, Reston Raiders, and Northern Virginia Ice Dogs. After playing with the Washington Junior Nationals for the 2006-2007 season, Brad continued playing at Lebanon Valley College (NCAA D-III) and also played professional hockey with the Cape Cod Bluefins (FHL). Brad spent the previous four seasons coaching teams with the Little Capitals at the U14 and U16 age groups. He has enjoyed successful seasons with those teams and produced a NJPHL championship, been in the AYHL championship game, and been a PVAHA regional champion. He attributes his coaching success to the American Development Model (ADM).

What Are MVP Trips About? 

An international tour with MVP is much more than just a hockey trip. Scholar Athlete Opportunity: *Application Required 

Apply to win an MVP International scholarship to cover a portion of your trip. Scholarships are limited and are designed for athletes that show 3 things...Commitment and dedication, respect, and leadership.  

In 2018, over $6,000 was awarded in scholarships.
